Maybe when you see this title, you will wonder, “Jing is an adult, is there anything special about her Children’s Day?” There is a saying in China that “men are teenagers until the day of death,” which means that men’s spirits and behaviors are still full of blood and passion like the original boys until the day they are old. I believe the same is true of women, and every woman feels like a girl in her heart.
International Children’s Day falls on 1 June every year. It is to honor the memory of children who have died in war all over the world, to oppose the harm to children and to protect them.
I am Chinese, and nowadays Children’s Day in China has become a children’s festival. Children share snacks at school, get Children’s Day gifts, and eat Children’s Day cakes. We commemorate the poor children of the past, but also celebrate the happiness of today. Cherish the peace and beauty of today.
Memories of children’s day
When I was a schoolgirl, the school would have tug-of-war and other competitive games on Children’s day, with children in 2 classes playing. Every student received candy. Parents gave their children more pocket money on that day than usual. I always get an extra Yuan on every Children’s Day. We would put our pocket money together and go buy snacks, watermelons, and drinks and have a small party in the classroom. I had fun every Children’s Day as a child.
Celebrating Children’s Day in China
Now that I’m older, do I still celebrate Children’s Day? Of course, with the development and progress of the times, most teenagers and young people like to celebrate various festivals and romanticize them. So not only can we see vendors selling bouquets on the street on Valentine’s Day, but also vendors selling bouquets on Children’s Day. Usually a boy gives a bouquet to his girlfriend, meaning “you’re my little baby, I’ll spoil you like a little baby.”
When the festival comes, people over the age of 30 will say, let’s go grocery shopping and cook a hearty dinner! Most of the young people will say, “The festival is coming, let’s go to the restaurant for a delicious dinner! Then we can go shopping together!” So the streets at night are filled mostly with young people. During the festival, the restaurants are always packed with a lot of guests.
How I spent Children’s Day, 2022
Do you want to know how I spent Children’s Day, 2022? Let me tell you. I usually go to my friend’s grandparents’ house for lunch. Now that summer is here, the temperature is 35° C and the weather is very hot, and their building has a water well. I really like the well water there. The water is always cold in the summer and warm in the winter. I grew up in rural Guangxi and we got our water from a well. When I left my hometown at the age of 17, I never encountered a well again until I met my friend’s grandparents. The well that can still be used today must be an old well. Nowadays people now have running water, so water wells are usually only seen in the countryside or in some old houses.

When I was a child, I got cash pocket money on Children’s Day, and now we always use WeChat or Alipay to pay, my sister will send me red envelopes on Children’s Day in WeChat. Today, she sent me 61 yuan. Why 61 yuan? Because today is 6/1. So why not 6.1 yuan? Oh, because my sister is always worried that her little sister won’t have the money to eat the food she want. 61 yuan could buy a nice dinner for me. My sister always gave me love in every way.
Celebrating with my friend
On Children’s Day, 2022, I sent some snacks to my friend as a gift. Her gift to me was a Bodhi bracelet that I have been wanting lately. We both love gifts from each other. Even though we’re both adults, we are still happy like children when we receive gifts from each other.

During dinner time, my friend got off work. The very familiar phrase: “Let’s go out to dinner!” So we showed up in the streets during the festival.
We first went to the milk tea shop and bought 2 cups of milk tea. It seems to be a habit between us, we really like drinking milk tea. She opted for a milk tea with a layer of cheese mixed with watermelon and crushed ice. I opted for a mix of grapes and crushed ice. Finally, we went for Mala Tang for dinner. Mala Tang is a special soup base for restaurants which you can cook with any ingredients you choose. That is, any ingredients that are not poisonous when mixed together. You can eat meat dishes, vegetarian dishes, mushrooms, noodles, rice noodles in Mala Tang. Simply put, Mala Tang is a hot pot for one person. Because you’ll have your own serving of cutlery, the ingredients you choose are all in your own bowl.
It was a pleasant dinner and I had a lot of food. I like to eat Mala Tang because I can choose the ingredients I like to eat, and I can choose the amount I like. The cost for is determined by weighing, and the restaurant’s checkout has a scale dedicated to weighing each person’s Mala Tang combination. In the end, the two of us spent a total of 53.74 yuan.

I guess I’ll always enjoy celebrating every holiday and I always like to celebrate with my friends. It makes me feel lively, joyful, and warm.
