About My Chinese Home Kitchen

My Chinese Home Kitchen was created by Jing Chen and Glenn Emerson.

Jing has had a life-long dream of becoming a Chinese Chef, and studying at the top culinary schools. She was orphaned as a teenager, forced to drop out of high school, and work in a factory to survive.

Glenn and Jing met online, in a chat room, during the COVID crisis. They became close friends. Glenn proposed the idea of creating a blog devoted to authentic Chinese home cooking and culture, as a way to help Jing earn money so she could complete her education.

Through their efforts, Jing has begun attending New Oriental Cooking School, and is studying to become a Chinese Chef. This is not a traditional career path for women in China. For many women in Jing’s socio-economic class, the only options are menial work, marriage, or both. The physical demands, and cultural traditions, favor male chefs. She is only the 6th woman to study the Chinese Chef curriculum at her school.
